Engagement rings symbolize love and commitment that is supposed to last for a lifetime. When you are a celebrity, though, there is a good chance that an engagement ring says, “I bought you a big expensive piece of jewelry to show that I’m going to love you for at least the next six months.” We all know that celebrity marriages tend to end in drama and heartache, so an expensive engagement ring is a big gamble in proving your love.
While most women like to show off how big and shiny their engagement rings are to friends and family, their rings have barely any bling compared to what these celebrities got. The average price for an engagement ring in the United States is around $2,300. Celebrities have gone well above the $2,300 price mark over the years. The lowest priced ring on our list is more than 100 times that.
More than half of the rings on our list have crossed over the $1 million mark. So which 12 celebrities own the most crazy expensive rings of all time? Here’s the list!
#12 – Reese Witherspoon ($250,000)

Toth proposed to Witherspoon in the traditional way, but with a lot of style when it came to ring selection. The quarter million dollar ring was designed by William Goldberg and is made of a four-carat Ashoka diamond. This diamond is considered to be extremely rare (it should be with that kind of price tag). Toth and Witherspoon were married in 2011, and despite rumors of divorce in 2014, are still married.
#11 – Kate Middleton ($500,000)

The ring was estimated at half a million dollars, made of blue sapphire with white gold surrounding the gem. The ring became even more valuable in terms of sentiment, since it once belonged to the ever popular Princess Diana. The two are still married and have a second child on the way.
#10 – Jennifer Garner ($500,000)

The ring was designed by Harry Winston and is a 4.5 carat cushion cut that is worth more than half a million dollars. Despite Affleck’s previous romances, this one seems to be sticking very well. The two have been married for nearly a decade. It’s hard to believe that they first met on the set of the 2003 film “Daredevil”. Garner even got a spinoff sequel, despite its modest box office success.
#9 – Khloe Kardashian ($850,000)

Odom dropped $850,000 on the ring that adorned a 12.5 carat diamond, but it didn’t symbolize a relationship that would last forever. Instead, the two only lasted as husband and wife from 2009 to 2013. Kardashian seems to have rebounded nicely, but her former basketball playing ex-husband hasn’t been seen much since. It’s a weird process to involve yourself in reality television, which Odom wasn’t quite accustomed to.
#8 – Hilary Duff ($1 Million)

Comrie proposed to Duff with a $1 million 14 carat ring. The two were married when Duff was 23; Comrie was 30.It seemed like it was going to last when the couple had a child together. However, in late 2014, the two separated and it doesn’t look like the marriage will be saved. Maybe it was a result of Duff not starring in many films these days and Comrie no longer having a hockey career. Perhaps they grew tired of each other? Whatever it was, something just didn’t click with these two in the end.
#7 – Catherine Zeta Jones ($2 Million)

At the time they were married in 2000, Zeta Jones was just 30 years old while Douglas was 55. At first glance it seems like a bad pairing, but the two have been making things work for nearly 15 years (with a few hiccups.) Zeta Jones claims that Douglas is still very youthful and has an abundance of energy. We’re thinking that a lot of 70 year olds would have that much energy, if they were married to Catherine Zeta Jones.
#6 – Kim Kardashian ($2 Million)

Humphries proposed to Kardashian as part of her reality television show, filled with cheesy cliches of rose petals and candles. The ring was a Lorraine Schwartz 20.5 carat diamond with a 16.5 carat emerald in the middle. The marriage was not meant to be, lasting a total of 72 days. For those keeping track at home, that is less than three months of marriage. And you thought your last relationship was short!
#5 – Mariah Carey ($2.5 Million)

So shortly after that time, Cannon had Carey kidnapped and thrown into a helicopter, where he proposed to her again. Carey said yes. It would be hard not to with a $2.5 million 17 carat pink diamond ring. The two were married in 2008, and had a set of twins together. Cannon filed for divorce at the end of 2014 and it’s getting messy.
#4 – Elizabeth Taylor ($2.5 Million)

So they tried it again and it didn’t last, but that was probably to be expected. Taylor was married a total of eight times in her life, while Burton was married a total of five times. Burton passed away in 1984 while married to Sally Hay. Taylor passed away in 2011, unmarried. The famous ring was put up for auction and fetched $2.5 million.
#3 – Jennifer Lopez ($2.5 Million)

The ring that Ben gave J-Lo was a 6.1 carat Harry Winston pink diamond creation. Ben probably should have saved it for the other Jenn. While Affleck and Garner are still together, Lopez has divorced Marc Anthony and is currently living the single life.
#2 – Jacqueline Kennedy ($2.6 Million)

The ring is a 40.42 carat marquise Harry Winston diamond ring and was given by Onassis to Kennedy in his home country of Greece. The two were married in 1968, but Onassis passed away in 1975, just seven years into their marriage. Kennedy passed away at the age of 64 in 1994, and the ring was sold for $2.6 million at an auction during an estate sale. Still, people fondly remember Kennedy’s time as First Lady with John F. Kennedy.
#1 – Beyonce ($5 Million)

If you want to know why the ring is so expensive, it is because it was an over the top design by Lorraine Schwartz. The diamond is completely flawless (18 carat emerald cut) and was set in platinum. Jay-Z and Beyonce were married in 2008 and have one child together (Blue Ivy). With a combined net worth of nearly $1.5 billion, we’re hoping the two stay together and avoid one of the messiest divorces of all time.
