When in Rome! Tennis ace Venus Williams wears migraine-inducing leggings as she steps out in Italian capital

Her sister, Serena, just crashed out of the Madrid Open in Spain.
So it's perhaps understandable that Venus Williams should cut something of a forlorn figure while out-and-about in Rome on Sunday.
Fortunately, the international tennis ace managed to brighten the mood with a pair of day-glow leggings, which certainly commanded attention.

The 34 year-old seemed to rely on her wardrobe choice to compensate for her deadpan expression.
She matched the geometric-print trousers with Nike trainers and a simple grey vest, while accessorising with a pair of hoop earrings and a sun visor.
Clutching her sports bag a smart-phone, the professional tennis ace seemed glued to the device as the navigated the streets alone.

In fact, the star player took regular breaks in her journey to send messages on her phone.
At one point she seemed particularly forlorn as she received a message, which may have been from her sister following her recent professional loss.
The World number one's 27-match unbeaten run ended with a 6-2 6-3 defeat by Petra Kvitova in the Madrid Open semi-finals on Friday.

Fortunately, Venus can enjoy being in one of her favourite European cities.
Sharing a recent blog post with fans, she wrote: 'I love being in Rome. It’s my favorite place to be outside of my home in good old Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. When the sun shines here everything seems possible!
'I am here in town for the Italian Open. This tournament has a long history, all the great players of the past and present have played and won here. When you go down one of the long halls to center court they have a gallery of portraits of the past champions dating from like 1800 or something. I made my debut on the wall way back in 1999, circa the time of the braids and beads.

She added: 'It’s hard to believe that was the last millennium! Fourteen years ago I was just starting my career and discovering the game of tennis.
'I have managed to win a few tournaments and live out quite a few of my dreams since that time, but more than anything I am happy that all these years later I still have that same big smile on my face and I still love the game.'
Supportive message? At one point she seemed particularly forlorn as she received a message, which was possibly from her sister in Madrid
