A Canadian woman who was found with her underwear around her ankles in a 'mutual masturbation' session with a fellow passenger has been found guilty of indecency on a plane.
Alicia Elizabeth Lander, 26, was flying from Toronto to Halifax on an Air Canada aircraft when she asked attendants if she could change seats to sit next to a man she had met while drinking in the departure lounge.
Shortly afterwards she was found with her underwear around her ankles and with a small jacket over her lap and that of the man next to her. A flight attendant said they were engaging in 'mutual masturbation'.
When she was met by police officers at the arrivals gate, Lander started screaming and shouting profanities and had to be kept in a locked room, where she kicked holes in the wall, the court heard.
Lander was found guilty of committing an indecent act on a plane, assaulting a police officer, committing an act of mischief and causing a disturbance that damaged property at Halifax Stanfield International Airport.
'I feel ashamed … it's not my character,' she testified during the trial, according to CBC News.
The court heard that Lander had claimed she started drinking at the airport on her way back from Edmonton because she felt depressed, the Globe and Mail reported.
She is said to have drunk 10 shots of whiskey before boarding the flight, and then at least four more while on board.
But a judge refused to accept her claim that she was so drunk she did not know what happened.
After she sat on the plane she asked if she could sit next to 'a friend'.
A passenger then told John Dunn, who was service director for Air Canada Flight 610, that Lander and the man she was sitting next to were 'about to join the Mile High club'.
Mr Dunn said he found Lander with her underwear around her ankles and asked her to get dressed, although she initially refused she was undressed.
Judge Timothy Gabriel said: 'The parties were engaged in actions that were described by Mr Dunn … as mutual masturbation,'
Lander then returned to her seat and slept for the rest of the flight and staff radioed ahead for police when they landed.
Lander had asked to switch seats so she could be next to a male friend and the pair were said to have engaged in 'mutual masturbation', with a jacket over their laps, during the flight from Toronto to Halifax

She was met by police officers at the arrivals gate, and arrested on January 24 last year.
She shouted at Mr Dunn and called him a liar as he told them what had happened. She then began to scream profanities and fight with the Royal Canadian Mountain Police officers.
Constable Mac Routliffe said Lander was screaming when she saw officers and kicked him twice. He said she was placed into an interview room and another officer was needed to hold the door to contain her because she was so enraged.
Jason George Chase, 40, was also charged with committing an indecent act in connection with the same incident. He pleaded guilty in January.
