Nicki Minaj performed to a packed crowd Saturday, despite human rights activists and critics calling for her concert to be canceled in the impoverished African nation of Angola.
The 33-year-old rapper was performing in the capital city of Luanda at a Christmas party hosted by the Unitel communications firm, which is part-owned by the family of the country's controversial President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
Dos Santos, 73, has been accused of overseeing corruption, misrule and intimidation in the country that suffers endemic poverty, despite being Africa's second-largest oil producer.
According to the United Nations Development Programme, more than a third of the country's population of about 24million people are living below the poverty line, and nearly 70 percent of the population lives on less than $2 a day.

Since becoming president of Angola in 1979, dos Santos has allegedly amassed an incredible amount of money in assets by taking control of several emerging companies and industries.
However, once it was made illegal for the president to have financial holding in companies and organizations by the Angolan Parliament, dos Santos allegedly began arranging for his daughter, Isabel dos Santos, to receive the assets.
According to Forbes, she is Africa's first billionaire and the richest woman on the entire continent.
Human rights groups claimed that Minaj's presence in Angola could be regarded as 'an endorsement' of the president's authoritarian rule and have accused the singer of 'callously taking money from a dictator.'
Minaj was reportedly paid $2million for the performance Saturday, where crowd members broke into a chant of her name during the show.
The Grammy nominated rapper shared two videos of the packed audience screaming in pandemonium at the concert to her Instagram account and captioned one video writing: 'Angola has my heart.'

Braless Rihanna makes slinky nightwear look evening-appropriate as she hits her favourite eatery in a satin slip dress

Braless Rihanna makes slinky nightwear look evening-appropriate as she hits her favourite eatery in a satin slip dress

She's partied hard at her own fundraising ball the previous evening.
But Rihanna wasn't going to be having a quiet night in on Friday night as she made a beeline for her favourite Santa Monica eatery, Giorgio Baldi.
Despite dining alone, the 27-year-old brunette was suitably glamorously clad in a slinky brown slip dress that made nightwear look like outerwear.

She added dainty white heels to the image to dress up the nightgown and was dripping in exquisite diamonds to make her fashion statement look more intentional.

The singer even made her outfit complete with a satin jacket to match the dress that cropped at her middle to give her curves full focus.
For once, Rihanna's tresses weren't a central feature of her outfit and she scraped them back into a low ponytail.

Work the underwear as outerwear trend in a sexy slip

Rihanna looked the picture of 90s grunge as she was spotted out on Friday!

The singer, who has just announced her world tour dates, wore a silk slip and matching jacket by ethical fashion brand Awaveawake, which counts Emma Roberts and Lily Donaldson as fans.

King of the 90s catwalk Calvin Klein made a return to his signature grungey styling this season, and it appears the rest of fashion land have followed suit.

Whilst Rihanna's been spotted out more than once working silky ensembles head to toe, there is a more wearable way to work the look.

The trick is to play with textures and contrast the sexy vibe with low key, dressed down separates: think cashmere sweaters, simple heels and dainty jewellery. Careful on the underwear front too - seamless styles are your lingerie BFF's here ladies!

Rihanna's exact outfit is only available in boutiques, so why not get the look with our edit of the high street's best slips below.

Managing to crack a rare smile, Rihanna was evidently still flying high from last night's second annual Diamond Ball.
She hosted the event in the same city rounding up her family and famous friends with the intention of raising money for the Clara Lionel Foundation.
That she did in spades, because the musician reportedly raised $3M for the foundation, which works to improve the quality of life for global communities in health, education, arts and culture.

This year, the fundraiser drew attendance from Zendaya, girl-of-the-moment Emily Ratajkowski and also Jada Pinkett Smith with husband Will.
And proving to be something of a star-studded affair, the inaugural event was attended by Kris Jenner and daughter Kylie.
Rihanna performed on the night, teasing her musical comeback, despite keeping fans guessing about her hotly-anticipated upcoming studio album ANTI, which faces yet more delays.

Cara Delevingne and girlfriend St Vincent continue to look loved up as they were pictured leaving the Scala nightclub in London together on Wednesday night.
The supermodel, 23, and her singer girlfriend, real name Annie Clark, 33, looked perfectly in sync as they modelled black leather jackets and the same shade of red lipstick as they left the venue.
The pair had been to see Wave Makers: A Concert to Benefit Our Oceans event which was held in the venue earlier on in the night.

Lending their star power to the very worthy cause as they stepped out for the Project 0 fundraiser, the girls looked incredibly fashion forward.

The blonde did it in style, thanks to her racy minidress that featured provocative cutout panels on her chest and midriff and she was evidently feeling in a kooky mood, to boot.
Cara who was more made up than usual with her crimson lips and lace-up booties, was playful for the cameras as she arrived for the event.

The model-turned-actress was wearing black from head to toe, save for her colour pop lipstick that gave the image a ladylike edge.
Her tresses were perfectly groomed and straight at the ends, cropping off just short of the two flower designs that stretched across her chest.
St Vincent showed off her legs in a black mini dress worn with tights, accessorizing with a cross-bdy white Chanel bag.

By now bored of standing and posing at photocalls, Cara used her imagine to keep the cameras entertained and later roped in old pal Mary Charteris to share the arrivals spotlight with her.
Later, Cara - now a confident, aspiring model - was keen to address the crowd on marine conservation and didn't hold back when she hit the microphone.
She was animated and enthusiastic, speaking about about saving the ocean to a room filled with fellow activists, and also to those watching the live stream that went out as she spoke.

The concert was held with very special celebrity guests with the aim of encouraging people to live sustainably by reminding them that the world is 70%.
The blonde has previously got on board with supporting such charities as The Art Room, which uses art as therapy to unlock the inherent potential of society's most vulnerable children.
In August, she even auctioned off some of her own jewellery to support WildCru: Wildlife Conservation Research Unit.
Cara wasn't the only big name in attendance because Project 0 managed to call in a favour from Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood.
The 68-year-old even performed in front of the full crowd, rocking out to a few of his old classics for their entertainment.
